Sloanieism 1/24/16

"Mom, I've got 3 passions in life. Number one is animals, number two is dancing, and number three is learning."

I hope he always remembers his passions in life. ❤️

Sloanism 6/315

After his first baseball practice today...

"I feel so energized now, like I could go do cardio. But not clean your room cardio- like running cardio."

Stell and I were having a very serious discussion in the car about Heaven and Hell and Sloane chirps up from the back seat loudly, "do you know who I prayer to? I prayer to Jesus with all my heart." I just want to freeze him right now he's so darn cute!!

Sloane's First Date

If you're reading this title you're probably thinking I mixed up my kids' names again since 5 is too young to date, but...Sloane DID go on a date this week. To make things even more interesting, it was with his cousin Lucy (that's a talk we will have at some point bit I now understand where the term "kissing cousins" comes from).

So, last Saturday night Sloane showed up in my room wearing a suit and carrying his wallet. I asked what he was doing (because you never know) and he told me he was going on a date. I asked the pertinent questions- how will you get there? Do you have enough money? Where is Lucy? While he was dressed for success, he hadn't thought too much about the details. His responses were, "We will take a taxi" and "I have $3", "We are going without adults." Since it was almost bedtime (aka I was in bed), and Lucy was out of town I was able to talk him down from the cousin dating ledge.

Unfortunately, the dream did not stop there. Now, his siblings and I thought he was pretty adorable and I'll admit we supported his dream- or at least parts of it. There would be no late night movie, taking a taxi, or wearing his corduroy Christmas suit. My version allowed for the linen suit, $5 matinee, and adult and sibling supervision. He seemed to realize the terms were agreeable and no negotiation tactics were attempted on his part.

The date was a success. He liked the movie, they shared popcorn and pop (notice the two straws),  and I even snuck in a popcorn-induced catnap in the new reclining theater seats. There may be more cousin dates in our future!

Lactose Intolerance

Stellen wanted to make me breakfast this morning (for money of course). I requested toast and a banana. He wanted to know what beverage he should bring me (probably expecting to tack on to my charges for including the drink). He asked if I wanted milk and then remembered, "oh that's right , you can't drink milk because you're black toast intolerant".  ...well he's right, I can't drink milk OR eat black toast.

Sloanieism

We were watching a movie and snuggling in bed (I know-big surprise) and Sloane had the hiccups. After awhile I said, "Sloane, will you stop that darn hiccuping!" He very seriously replied "Ok, I'll try" which made me feel a little guilty because he didn't realize I was teasing (plus he's so darn cute!). I asked for a kiss and he puckered up and started to lean in then stopped and said, "I better not, I don't want you to catch my hiccups". God I love that kid. 😍

Happy Birthday Skyler

June 16, 1992 was one of the best days of my life. Guy and I were so young and naive, but we couldn't wait to meet this baby that would change our lives forever. Sky was a sweet baby, cuddly toddler, and cautious and kind kid. He never went through the terrible teens and was always an easy kid to raise. Now, I'm not saying he was perfect, but he was always perfectly easy to love.

So, here's to another year watching Sky become a great brother, son, and man. I'm looking forward to many more birthdays with my first born. Love you ♥️
